YACHT INFORMATION: A 58m sailing yacht is currently searching for a BOSUN to join their crew of 10. The bosun is required to be very capable and accomplished in all these areas; ketch rig configuration, remote cruising plan, long passage making, and dive focused operations. • In addition to all the usual maintenance items, such as paint, varnish, teak decking, tenders/toys, sails, running rigging, standing rigging, winches, deck hardware, hydraulics, etc. the vessel runs a mini-ISM system, IDEA vessel maintenance program and is managed to a high standard by the yachts management company. Deck crew: On deck we have the Captain, Mate, Bosun, and one Deckhand. • The owners are energetic, engaging, and personal therefore crew that can match this are essential. • The crew on board are very positive, outgoing crew, so you will need to be a go-getter, self-Starter and is motivated to do the best possible job for all the right reasons is what’s required. • A safety conscious, highly motivated, problem-solving self-starter, who is good on the tools and undertakes tasks the correct way with safety in mind. • Physically active non-smoker. We enjoy socialising but are not a ‘party’ boat. • Water sport skills are desirable, including kite surfing. The bosun is required to have the following in place: • They must be a strong sailor with a min. of 2 years’ experience onboard a large sailing yacht. • They must be capable and confident in leading a navigational watch while under sail. • They must be capable and confident in leading working aloft procedures. • They must be capable and confident operating an in-boom leisure furl sailing system, as well as hydraulic headsail systems. • And they must have a safety mindset. • The Bosun and Deckhand take care of the bulk of the work on deck as the C/O role is heavy on the admin. side, expanding on above: • The remote locations and long passages don’t allow for any ‘extra’ hands. • Guest trips are often dive orientated, so time can be split with jet tender driving, diving itself. An understanding of safe diving practices is also important. • With the ISM, IDEA and YCO systems onboard, computer literacy is a prerequisite. • Male bosun is required to be between the ages of 25-35 years old, Needs to be Australian, New Zealand, or British. The vessel is coming toward the end of its 15-year yard survey period where the masts, rigging, paint work have been renewed, and the teak decks have been replaced. We’re looking for the right person to be the custodian of the deck and take care of it moving forward. ITINERARY: Northern Europe, After the completion of the yard period, commissioning and sea trials, the vessel will be delivered to the Pacific. QUALIFICATIONS: STCW95, Minimum of YM Offshore and working towards OOW. PADI Divemaster or Instructor would be highly desirable. Valid ENG1 and B1B2. START DATE: immediate start EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full time with 3-month trial period SALARY: $5,500 to $6500.00USD per month, pending on the crew-members tickets, longevity in past positions, and experience on sailing yachts. Package - 60 days annual leave, 2 return flights, supported training.
